Support local, small hardware stores instead.
Home Depot is more than just a big-box store—it’s a pipeline of money and data that fuels Donald Trump’s agenda and ICE’s attacks on immigrant communities.
Trump’s Billionaire Backers
Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus is one of Trump’s biggest financial boosters:
- In 2016, he gave $7 million to Trump’s campaign and supporting committees.
- In 2020, Marcus and his spouse gave $731,200 directly to Trump and $10.7 million to pro-Trump PACs.
- Over the years, Marcus has poured nearly $64 million into Trump, Republican candidates, and GOP super PACs.
While Home Depot tries to distance itself by saying Marcus “retired,” other executives—including Arthur Blank and Ken Langone—have also written big checks to Trump, who we like to call the “Fortunate Son.”
Spying and Raids with ICE
Funding Trump is one thing. Helping ICE hunt immigrant families is another.
- A report from the Electronic Frontier Foundation revealed at least 173 instances of Home Depot providing surveillance footage directly to ICE.
- Home Depot parking lots have become staging grounds for raids.
- In some cases, ICE agents were even allowed inside stores to track down immigrants.
- For years, immigrant day laborers have also reported harassment in Home Depot parking lots, making the stores hostile ground for those simply seeking work. In addition, in capitulating to Trump, Home Depot has also abandoned efforts to hire and promote a more diverse work force. Regardless of what one thinks of diversity, opening the door to people shut out is always a good thing.
Take Action
Every time you need a bucket, a drill bit, or a garden tool, you have a choice:
- Do not shop at Home Depot.
- Support your neighborhood’s local hardware store.
Boycotting Home Depot means hitting Trump’s donors and ICE enablers where it hurts—their profits.
